Wasaya Community Economic Development Corporation
The overall goal of W.C.E.D.C is to make its Economic Development projects attainable, self-sufficient and to provide employment opportunities for our partnership communities.
Our Mission Statement:
1: To promote, initiate, and provide continuing assistance and management of projects designed to foster the community and economic development of the people of the Wasaya First Nations,
2: To promote economic self -Sufficiency through economic independence within the Wasaya First Nations and the region while respecting the traditions and values of the people.
We work with First Nation communities and their Economic Development Officer's (EDO's) to examine projects and synergies that can be developed and lead to sustainable projects in the region. In addition we reach out to Corporate and Government partners including funding agencies to enhance northern living and promote entrepreneurial opportunities for First Nation community members or their First Nations.
Two recent projects have successfully concluded are the Taking Flight Project, a partnership with SLAAMB (Sioux Lookout Area Aboriginal Management Board) to increase Management opportunities for aboriginals in Aviation related careers, and the Retail Advisor Project, a partnership with FedNor and the Wasaya Buying Group that increased the management capacity of Community owned Retail operations.
New Regional Aboriginal Tourism Development Association: WCEDC is currently developing a new Regional Aboriginal Tourism Development Corporation called Wasaya Wilderness Adventures to serve the communities and individuals that require assistance marketing their wilderness adventures including Eco-Tourism opportunities.
